PC doesn't recognize that it has internet access
When I purchased a modem/router and set it up it worked perfectly. About a month later after I restarted my PC it didn't realize it had internet access. I can't get it to automatically connect. I use a work around I found on the internet by putting 8888 as the preferred DNS server address. My tablet and cell phone work fine. BTW, I really don't understand why that works and I am afraid to turn off my pc since it happens even if that 8888 is still there.

8.8.8.8 is a popular DNS run by Google. There's likely some configuration error with the PC, an overly zealous security application, or malware that prevented it from using the normal Comcast DNS that your gatreway would've used.
Without details, that's all I can give you.
