Paying for 2gbps service, only getting 1gb service, help!

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has come across this issue as well.
A bit of backstory:
Originally I had upgraded to the 1.2gig plan and was getting between high 900's to 1200mbps. Due to "reasons" I had to downgraded to the gig plan, which gave me speeds of 700 to high 800's.

Recently I upgraded to the 2gb plan, however I'm still getting mid 800's on average. I called in for support and they sent a "priority signal" to my router (not exactly sure what it's called). After that I was seeing 1700mbps to 2000mpbs. 15-20mins later, I rechecked and I'm back to mid 800's. I have been checking randomly daytime and night time and my speeds are still 700 to mid 800's regardless of time of day (checked morning, afternoon, evening, midnight, 3am, etc).
While I expect not to be hitting 2gbs all the time, it should be at least faster then the gig plan I was paying for on average NOT the same speed(s). Worst of all I'm not getting even 1.2gbps speeds when I had that plan.

This is very frustrating as there is no point to pay for a 2gbps connection if my old 1gb connection is the same speed normally.

As to WiFi questions and people using the line while I'm testing, usage is low (I have verified throughput on my router)
The device I'm testing from has a 2.5gb physical connection DIRECTLY to the modem, and has negotiated at 2.5gb
I did see speeds in excess of 2gbs after the "priority signal" but it didn't stick.
My equipment hasn't changed since I had the 1.2gbps plan.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Thank you for connecting with us about the concerns with your speeds, @stephen_m_s. It sounds like it's been an issue for a while. You've come to the right place for help. I'm assuming you've done your own troubleshooting, and checking coaxial cabling to make sure it's in good condition and securely tightened? Also, the cables aren't too old, damaged, bent, or severely kinked? It seems as though there aren't any splitters connected either. I was going to recommend swapping those out with some new ones as well. Do you normally have a personal router connected as well?

@stephen_m_s

Have a CSR check the modem's speed provisioning / bootfile, and the backend account data as well. Good luck !
