Owned Netgear C7100V problem
Does Comcast firmware updates on Netgear c7100V modem/routers?
Doesnt happen on a regular basis. Usually family complains of 'no internet' and when I log in to router, I see all network names reset and passwords reset. Manually have to go in and change the names/passwords back to what every family member/devices use.
Cannot find find anywhere to disable 'auto upddate'
???
Thanks in advance

Xfinity does manage the firmware on 3rd party gateways/modems. Do they? Very infrequently, and likely will take months to get a security update, if ever.
I'm a bit confused though. Here's the manual. What setting/feature are you having to change?

I've seen the Netgears reboot due to line/signal conditions, but I've never seen one tip over, lose it's config file and revert to default. You can save a config file under advanced-->backup and restore it easy enough, but it shouldn't be happening in the first place.
That usually indicates an internal power supply/hardware problem. It may not be long for this life. Heat can do it, is the thing getting hot or it's power supply? You can try plugging it into a different circuit if you can, but if the hardware is flaking, that won't help. If the thing is covered in dust, blast it out with a can of compressed freeze spray or computer cleaner, especially that toothpick reset hole.
I'd also make sure remote management/access is shut off, and change the default admin password, but that probably isn't the problem. Barring deliberate subterfuge trying to reset parental controls or something, I'd say hardware issue.
Anyone else ever see this?

@user_15e861 Consumer grade parts are 0C-70C rated, so the temp is pretty good actually. Might sound hot but it isn't. You might have a flash part wearing out though. They're good for lots of writes, until they aren't.

The default/loss of configuration seems to be related to ISP pushed firmware updates. This has happened a few times last year and just yesterday. Current firmware at my location is V2.01.45 with NetGear's C7100V Cable Modem Router site listing V2.01.42. See https://kb.netgear.com/000036375/What-s-the-latest-firmware-version-of-my-NETGEAR-cable-modem-or-modem-router for the discrepancy.
