Own modems Mac id coming up as rental

I'm trying to active my internet. Xfinity system is saying that my modems Mac id is in their system as one of their rentals. So I either need to pay the rental fee or buy another modem

After talking to multiple Xfinity reps for hours. I ended up just going and buying a new modem. The new one activated without issue

Is it second hand ? Where did you get it ?

It was a modem that cox had provided. When I terminated service they told me I didn't need to return it.

It may have wound up being listed in Comcast's database as having been stolen / unreturned and they won't provision it for service. To be safe, buy / use only brand-new modems in their original packaging from reputable retailers.

I'm going to escalate this to the Comcast corporate employees who monitor these help forums. They may be able to get it activated for service. YMMV. Good luck with it !

@user_xk0g1d Could you please send us a direct message including your name, account holder name (if different), and the service address so we can get started. Myself or one of my awesome colleagues will respond as soon as possible.

To send a "Direct Message" to Xfinity Support:

Click "Sign In" if necessary

Click the "Direct Messaging" icon or https://comca.st/3EqVMu7

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there

- As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list

- An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

Press Enter to send it
