Options to increase direct ethernet connectivity

Currently have one Router/Modem combo in our living room of small apartment. Office is at other end of apartment and has cable ports but they are not activated. Wondering if best option to plug office computers directly into ethernet ports would be to have the ports activated and move the router/modem into office? And then could get a secondary router or xfinity hotspot to expand wifi as needed in living room for the smart tv.
