OpenDNS

I have my own router connected to Xfinity (to avoid the monthly lease cost) and everything works fine.   My router leverages Xfinity’s forced DNS (75.75.75.75) and my understanding is there is no deviating from that.

connecting to my router (hardwired) I’m using Nest Wi-Fi router and multiple Nest points to provide my house a mesh Wi-Fi network.   I would like to use OpenDNS to eliminate / protect my kids from inappropriate content.   I should be able to us OpenDNS on my Nest Router…but it looks like no matter what, Xfinity forces everything back to their DNS.

Anyone else experience this / find a workaround ?

thank you,

17 year Xfinity customer @ $250+ / month x 204 months = $51,000 of payments and hoping to get a reasonable answer.

Where have you read that Xfinity forces DNS? I can set OpenDNS on my netgear CAX80 but my issue is more with IPv6 support. Most of the web is moving there and OpenDNS is still dragging behind.  For any family filtering of IPv6 I have to use Cloudflare: Primary DNS: 2606:4700:4700::1113 // Secondary DNS: 2606:4700:4700::1003 .

Hello, @KevGA. We appreciate your business over the years and are always glad to help. @ilikecerealtoo is correct that you should be able to use open DNS with your setup. What type of router are you using?
