Only getting 10 MB/s upload speed on Arris SBG8300 with the 400 MB/s download and 100 MB/s upload plan.

I am only getting 10% of the upload speed that the plan I pay for claims to provide.

I tested this while I only had one device active online so there is no way the other 90 MB/s were being taken.

Plus the Download speed shows 453.7 MB/s which is expected.

If there were any other ISP available other than Verizon or Comcast in this, I would absolutely have chosen them.
Unfortunately I am stuck with ya'll.
So please help correct this.

As the subject states, I setup a third party modem that Xfinity listed as being compatible with their service, the Arris SBG8300.

Here is what I see

... SBG8300 with the 400 MB/s download and 100 MB/s upload ...

There are a few retail devices approved by them for higher upload speeds, but the SBG8300 is not one of them. See:

Also see the "All Compatible Devices" link near the bottom of https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices (at the moment it points to https://assets.xfinity.com/assets/dotcom/projects/cix-4997_compatible-devices/2023.11.22%20Full%20List%20of%20Compatible%20Devices.pdf).

Realize that although Comcast calls some devices "Approved" and some "Recommended", for all but a few devices those designations only mean "approved/recommended for use with their Internet service", and not necessarily "approved for the new higher upload speeds". For 100 Mbps upload you need one of the devices shown with an upload speed rating in the .PDF and the Reddit links, which also lists other requirements for those speeds. Comcast could make all of this much clearer, but they have chosen not to do so.

Wow thanks for the the thorough information.
Your response is more useful than anything I have ever seen from Comcast themselves.

Got the https://www.surfboard.com/products/wi-fi-cable-modems/g54/ but still have the same limited 10 MB/s upload speed with the new modem. I am in Washington DC which is listed under the Northeast division. Requested a technician to come out because seems ridiculous to pay for only 10% efficiency.

@user_ltcouz - check what service Tier you are currently have,

as there are additional requirements on top of the compatible device for the "Next Gen Speed Tier"

Eligibility

Customers will not receive faster upload speeds if they:

  • Do not reside in a Enhanced Speed market
  • Have Internet Essentials/Internet Essentials Plus or Prepaid Internet
  • Customer owned and managed (COAM) modems that are not the approved list at this time
  • Have an XB2 or XB3 Xfinity Gateway
  • Are on a Legacy speed tier* (examples include Blast! Pro+, Performance Select, etc. -- some exclusions apply)

*Some Legacy speed tiers are eligible and will be broken down per division

@user_noname I don't think I have any of those tiers as I posted a screenshot of my plan above. 400 MB/s download and 100 MB/s upload.

@user_ltcouz - Have you rebooted your G54 a few times? I have seen some Posts that after a couple of reboots the correct upload speed start to work,

also found this Post https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/your-home-network/arris-g54-upload-speed/65a0b1e38f01ac51ddb91b9d , could be a similar issue.
