Only 10 connections allowed?

I have the gigabit plan and the cgm4331com modem/router that is working fine, but I just got a message saying that I can only have 10 devices connected at one time?  How does one, in this day, with cameras, thermostats, game systems, phones, laptops etc only have 10 devices? What is the point of a fast speed if we cannot connect devices to it?

It would appear that you are connecting to an xfinity hotspot.  https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/manage-wifi-devices-my-account .  There is more information in this article:  https://itblogpros.com/comcast-xfinity-wifi-device-limiteasily/

Your modem should allow 50 connections.

If you really want to unlock the potential of your service, ditch the xfinity hardware and buy your own.  Just make sure it is on the compatible devices list.  Suggest you get separate modem and router.  The modem is the device that must be compatible with xfinity.  Buy one that supports the fastest speeds you can afford (currently most good modems support up to 2.5 GHz downloads.  The router can be whatever you wish.  Stick with a name brand.  I recommend Netgear, although most name brand routers are fine.  Here is the landing page to help you find a compatible modem:  https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/list-of-approved-cable-modems.

I use an Arris (Motorola) modem and a Netgear router with a Netgear range extender.

If you choose to go the route of buying your own hardware, you will not only be able to customize it to your needs, but you will have far greater control over every aspect of your home network. With xfininty provided hardware, you actually have very limited ability to modify the hardware to give you the best performance.
