Online gaming - Intermittent Internet issues causing server disconnects
My gaming rig is connected to the Xfinity's xFi modem/router via ethernet cable
What's happening: I will lose connection to online gaming servers and get disconnected. It may happen sporadically for an hour and then not happen again for a few days. Then re-appear.
- I have replaced the coaxial cable connecting from the wall to the modem.
- I've replaced the ethernet cables.
- I've tried wi-fi.
- I have followed the online troubleshooting steps.
- I have reached out and talked with an xfinity tech and followed their instructions
- An xfinity tech came out and replaced the modem
- I have downloaded Net Uptime Monitor. Usually when I start to see the foreshadow of a disconnect, the tool is reporting > 200 ms responses from the DNS server. In all cases where I get booted from an online game, the tool reported all 3 DNS servers were not responding within 200 ms. The outage is almost always less than 2 seconds; meaning, for up to 2 seconds, none of the 3 configured DNS servers responded. I'm using google, xfinity's primary DNS and cloudflare
- 3 real-life friends who all live within 5 miles of me, play the same games as I do, are not experience this same issue.
- I don't see any errors in my window's event logs that seem to point to an issue.
- I've re-created this using multiple computers.
- The only thing I can see in the xfi logs is a lot of the following:
- DHCPv6[13321]: 72001011-DHCPv6 - Missing Required Option 82
- DHCPv6[13321]: 72001011-DHCPv6 - Missing Required Option 24
- DHCPv6[13321]: 72001009-DHCPv6 - No Advertise or Reply Received 1 times
- Unrelated? I get pixelated TV screens that I've reported over and over. I've even asked if the signal coming into the house is somehow degraded that might explain my issues?
I'm tired of calling in, working through the online chat bot to get reach a human tech rep, get told "You've reached the correct department, and I promise you this will get fixed" and still have the issue.
I realize the blip of outage is small and not impacting work but it's definitely impacting my hobby. :D
I was even looking at Verizon fiber or other providers, but no one services my area.
Do I need my own modem/router? Is there something I can try that can fix this issue?

Hello, @spunkremus. I wouldn't want my gaming to get interrupted either. Let's take a look into this together to see what can be done to get this resolved.
Could you send me a direct message with the full name and complete address for your service?
To send a direct message [private message]:
Click the "Direct Message" icon or https://forums.xfinity.com/direct-messaging
Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there.
- As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list.
- An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line.
Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
Press Enter to send it.
