On my laptop only, I can only game online using ethernet. Not wifi. Tablet plays same games fine. Please help

I just moved into a new apartment and got an xb8 gateway. Prior, my roommate and I had the same gateway and I had absolutely NO issues gaming. Now, with this new gateway (new account, the other xb8 was his), I can only use my PC to game using ethernet. On ethernet the games all run perfectly. Otherwise, on wifi, I get network connection errors for every online game I've tried to log into. Either that or the game will allow me to log in and play for 30 sec before the network connection issues start and then the internet drops with "no internet". Keep in mind, I'm RIGHT in front of the router as I put it in the middle of the living room floor to test. It's been like this since day one, end of May.

This is only on my PC. My tablet plays the same games just fine over the same wifi.

Port forwarding didn't help

switching from 3 to wpa2 didn't help.

rebooting the gateway didn't help.

restarting the PC, obviously...

Everything was fine prior to me moving and starting up a new account. I have the same speed we had just a few weeks ago, same router, etc. Shoot, prior to that, I lived with someone who had an older xfinity router and that also worked perfectly. This is the first time in 2 years or so of xfinity and this ASUS ROG laptop that I've ran into this issue.

If you can help, please do. I'm absolutely baffled as I'm using the exact setup we had previously, just with less devices on the network.  He wasn't a gamer at all so he didn't do anything special with his, settings wise.

ok, after 2 hours of xfinity service talks, if anyone comes across this same issue. Try going into the app, wifi section, and splitting the bands to 2.4 and 5g. Then connect to the 5g one and see if that does anything for you. Atm it worked for me, so fingers crossed.

Hey there MrVino, that's a pretty odd situation, but thank you for being so detailed in your post and comment, it helps a ton. I'm glad to hear adjusting your Wi-Fi bands was able to help. Are you still able to connect over Wi-Fi with your laptop? Are any of your other devices impacted with the band steering update you made?

@XfinityMarcos I just tried again and yep, I'm still able to.. Thank gosh.  Yeah, it's a very odd situation. I could take my laptop to work and log into every single game I have issues with over that wifi. I just couldn't log into this router/gateway over wifi, or stay logged in for more than 30 sec, at my apt. Nope, so far it doesn't seem like I've had any issues with other devices, as far as connections are concerned. I had to reconnect them to the new names of the bands but that seems to be about it atm. I haven't tested every device I have since the band split but so far so good.

MrVino, I know some devices require a specific wifi band, so that could be the case with your laptop. Would it be ok if I checked back in with you next week to make sure you're connection is still stable?

Hi @MrVino,

I wanted to follow up as promised. How has performance been since we last touched base?

To be honest, I haven't played much of anything lately. BUT, I just tested the issue I was having with games, "logging in" and everything still seems to be in the right direction. I do need to test the performance but overall auto connecting to 2.4g seemed to be the initial issue.
