On 900 mbps plan but getting only 600 mbps

I have an Xfinity Xfi gateway (modem/router) and when I was on the 400 mbps plan two days ago, I would regularly get ~400 mbps (or slightly greater) using wireless on my 2010 MacBook Pro. After moving up the 900 mbps plan, without changing or adding any new connected device, I am only getting ~600 mbps. I've chatted with Xfinity tech several times who confirmed the bootfile was updated correctly, power cycled 10+ times but ~600 mbps is the best I get. Is this expected or should I go down to my local Xfinity store and see if they can swap out the gateway? When I connect to the gateway to the MBP via ethernet cable, I get ~1.01 gig so I know the issue is with the wireless vs any cables coming into my home.

I am not expecting to get 900 mbps but I would think the speed should be around 800; otherwise, I might as well downgrade to a 600 mbps plan.

There wasn't any. We tried unplugging the cable from the wall, from the gateway, refreshing the gateway, unplugging the gateway...nothing made any difference. So I downgraded to the 600 mbps plan and guess what? With the same gateway, same laptop, same distance from the gateway, I am getting consistently ~580 mbps (95% of advertised speed). No plausible explanation from Xfinity on this -- only possible explanation was that my laptop might be able to handle any speeds above 650 mbps (it is a 2019 MacBook Pro with 2.6 Ghz with 6-core Intel i7).

The wifi on my laptop is 802.11 ac which can transmit up to 1300 mpbs.

I'm going to assume this is locked, since it's 2 months old, but I was doing a Google search and stumbled on it.  Today we just upgraded to the Xfinity Gateway XB7 (white diagonal top just to make sure). We went from a 600mbps plan to the 1.2GB plan.  I'm still getting the same if not worse download speeds.  Now they clock in at 585mbps and they were right around that with the old router, not even a gateway. My Windows 11 PC's wifi can go up to 2.4 gbps.
It's almost as if somewhere a switch wasn't flipped.
Long ago with an old plan, we doubled it, it required no new hardware, just a call, and tech support did something on their end and poof, the new speed was achieved.  This is very odd.

What am I paying almost $400 a month for?

Hi, @n0s4atu. It sounds like we need to send a provisioning signal to the new XB7 modem. That will typically update the speed to the new tier. This thread was unlocked so we could find out what happened and learn from this experience. We want to help you as well. Can you please create a new thread with this issue?
