Now all access to wifi settings have been removed, how to configure router from MacOS

Due to arthritis I can't use mobile phones.  I therefor only have MacOS.

Until recently I could login to my local access point and configure settings on the access point itself.

Now I am compelled to use the Xfi app to make any changes (this didn't used to be the case) but Xfinity have not clicked the option that enables the app to be installed on MacOS.  It is configured for iPhone only installation.

So now I have a new webcam on my network but have no idea of its IP address.  Can Xfinity re-enable local configuration on my router, or do I have to switch to another provider?

Greetings, @user_f3moxo! I hope your week has been treating you well. Thanks so much for taking a moment out of your busy day to leave a post on our community forum about your router configuration. You have definitely come to the right place for assistance.

Are you able to log in to the admin portal on your gateway, but unable to configure individual network devices because of a message telling you to use the Xfinity app, or are you unable to log in to the admin portal at all? There is an option to re-enable local access, but it can only be done through a new Admin Tool toggle in the Xfinity app. You will need to use the Xfinity app one time to turn it on, but you should be able to use your Mac to configure your network settings after that. You can find more details about how to do this here: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/admin-tool-access

Hi JamesC

Thanks for getting back on this.   I used to be able to log into my gateway and make some changes (some were locked), but now I only see a message saying "Managing your nome network settings is now easier than ever. To manage your gateway settings and other features, please download the Xfinity xFi app"

However as I noted above, I do not own a mobile phone of any kind as I cannot use them due to arthritis.  My interim solution has been to revive an old wireless router that I have connected via ethernet to the gateway and to shift my devices onto this network.  But its old and slow and likely has security vulnerabilities, so I'd prefer if Xfinity could simply undo the change that I didn't ask for in the first place and absolutely does not make things easier for me.  Would this be possible from your end?

Thank you for clarifying things for me, @user_f3moxo. I'm happy to hear you were able to find a workaround by using a third-party router, but I can understand your misgivings about using it. We do not have any way to undo these new security measures or re-enable access remotely, unfortunately. I think it would be helpful to have an option to turn on the Admin Tool through a secure login on your computer, or by reaching out to our Advanced Support Team. My team is working on submitting a suggestion for this as we speak, but I have a feeling those options may have been intentionally omitted for the sake of security. Regardless, if we are able to come up with a workaround, we will make sure it gets posted here on our community forum.
