Notification that a new device connected to my network, over 30 connected devices...which one is it?!?!

Identify the Device via MAC Address

- Check MAC Randomization: Modern smartphones, tablets, and laptops (iOS, Android, Windows) use "Private Wi-Fi Addresses" or MAC address randomization for security. Whenever a device updates, reconnects, or rotates its private MAC address, the Xfinity app flags it as a brand-new device (I've personally witnessed this and even changed my WiFi password when I grew suspicious of what turned out to be my own phone reconnected 😂, then figured it out and felt much better).

- Look Up the OUI: If MAC randomization is off, the first six characters of the MAC address (e.g., AA:BB:CC) identify the manufacturer. You may use an online MAC vendor lookup tool to find the brand (e.g., Samsung, Apple, Roku, Amazon).

Isolate and Test Connections

- Pause/Block the Unknown Device: In the Xfinity app, temporarily pause internet access or block the mystery device. Watch to see which item in the home suddenly loses connection or displays an offline error.

- Disconnect All & Reconnect: Turn off Wi-Fi on personal devices one by one (smart TVs, streaming sticks, smart plugs, printers, gaming consoles) to see which active line drops from the Xfinity app's connected list.

Check Common "Hidden" Devices

- Smart home hubs, smart bulbs, plugs, thermostats, or voice assistants often register as generic device names or numeric IDs instead of recognizable brand names.

- Mesh extenders, secondary routers, or guest networks can also report connected client devices as new hardware.
