Not seeing 10g upload speeds on Gig+ plan

Account settings say I should have 1200/200 speeds.  I'm seeing the DL speeds, but the upload is still registering about 40 up.  I'm using a Netgear CM1150V modem which is certified on Xfinity and is more than capable of handling those speeds.  Why am I not registering any sort of increase in my upload?

I've rebooted the modem and my router (Orbi RBR350). I've checked the settings on both the modem and router and everything is ok.  I've tried wired and wireless connection speed tests on 2 laptops and 2 different phones as well as checking directly on the modem and router, and the upload is still in the 40 range (like it's been since I got the gig+ speeds). Could it be a profile issue and a profile update with the updated upload speed would fix it?

Thanks in advance for your help

... using a Netgear CM1150V modem ...

Is that a typo? The Netgear CM2050V modem is approved for Gigabit service, but the CM1150V is only approved for plans "Up to 948 Mbps". See https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices.

Modem goes up past gig speeds. Issue is the upload anyways. It's the account settings not the modem.

@BruceW wrong info on the device. Specs say multi-gig. Issue isn't with the download anyways, it's with the upload. Why am I not seeing the increased upload speed...

What the manufacture says doesn't matter much if Comcast is not delivering those speeds to the modem. The "All Compatible Devices" link on https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices lists only three retail devices rated for use with upstream speeds above 40 Mbps:

  • Hitron Technologies:
  •     CODA      934 Mbps / 456 Mbps
  •     CODA56  2.33 Gbps / 455 Mbps
  • Netgear:
  •     CM2050v 2.32 Gbps / 455 Mbps

You'll note that the CM1150V is not one of them.

Well then that's fairly recent because when I bought the modem it was certified (still is). But that was before 10g I guess. No one on the support lines seems to have any clue about this which I guess shouldn't be overly surprising.

You have reached the right place for help, @RedsonRising! We're evolving our network to deliver the speed, reliability, and performance you need. Currently, there are limited retail modems, available that can support the higher upstream speeds delivered by our recent network improvements. The full list of all compatible devices can be found here.

Recommended Devices for Next Gen Speed Tier include:
CODA DOCSIS 3.1 up to 456 Mbps wired upload
CODA56 DOCSIS 3.1 up to 455 Mbps wired upload
CM2050v DOCSIS 3.1 provides up to 455 Mbps wired upload.

When Comcast first introduced Gigabit service they approved a bunch of devices for it which were later demoted from Gigabit back to a number around 940. Why? They've never said. Since The Great Gigabit Demotion, they seem to be requiring all devices they approve for Gig and Gig+ service to have 2.5 Gb (or higher) ports.

The CM2050V has a 2.5 Gb port, but the CM1150V does not.

Yeah not in the mood to spend $340 on yet another new modem so I can optimize my network to have better performance. Sad that the modem can handle the speeds with 0 issues. Know why they changed, but can't say it because it'll be viewed as "inflammatory". Lol.

Guess if I want the upload I need to explore going back to an xfinity device. 😑

Hillarious that I didn't get an "official" rep response until an "inflammatory" comment.
