Not getting gigabit speed
Hello,
Long time lurker, first time poster. Just wanted to get some advice on how to achieve gigabit speeds through my xfinity data plan. I recently upgraded to the gigabit plan probably a month ago and saw no increase in speed even though I purchased a new modem that is capable. Wifi speeds vary around 300mbps but wired connection(moca) is 225.
Hard ware:
Modem- Netgear CM1200
Router- Netgear Nighthawk R7000(AC1900)
MoCa Adapter- Motorolla MM1000
Recently had a Comcast rep today(6/17/20) and was told all the signals were strong and he saw no issues. The modem is about 2 weeks old and only purchased for the new gigabit plan. Previously I was on the 175 mbps with the CM500 but was hitting around 200mbps download through moca. Just wanted to get some ideas what can be the issue. My current speed through speedtest.net is: Ping 12ms, download 225.71mbps, upload 42.07
The networking port on my motherboard is rated for 1gbps(MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max) but somehow I'm getting slower speeds on WiFi. I doubt I'll hit 1Gbps but to be honest I'll be happy with at least 500+.
Please let me know if any logs or data is needed. I have been trying to troubleshoot with Comcast customer service for weeks and all they basically do is tell me to restart the modem and they'll "send stronger signals" to see if it helps.
Side notes:
- I have a POE filter installed right at the splitter(holland moca certified) which goes to the rest of the coaxial lines for the house.
- all networking drivers are up to date
- Modem and Router have latest firmware and were recently reset to factory settings
- Unable to connect to internet through ethernet to modem(Comcast tech said his device was not working and wasn't able to run a speedtest from the modem)
Possible problems?
- Did I somehow get a defective modem? I tried connecting other laptops to the modem via ethernet and was unable to connect. Was just hanging on a "unidentified network" but as soon as I plug into router I'm instantly connected.
Anything helps! Sorry for the really long post, just wanted to put as much information as I can out there.

For a test, does a computer hardwired directly to the CM1200 (no router in the mix) have the same problem ?

Hi,
Unfortunately, I don't have an easy way of testing my computer without setting everything up outside(in my room).

I had the same issue. Couldn't get through to a human so I went to xfinity.com/activate and activated my modem again just like you do when you first start service. I went from about 240 to 900 Mbps! Note: I use my own modem. I am guessing that this forces the system to update to your new plan and send the necessary data to your modem.
