Not getting full internet speed after the free speed upgrade

I recently noticed that the connection speed of my Performance Select plan changed from 100mbps to 200mbps. I then reset my Arris SB6183 cable modem, my speed didn't increase. It is still the same as before, which is about 94mbps (after connecting my laptop directly to the modem). I did some research and thought it was a problem with the Ethernet cable, the cable is a cat5 enhanced cable, so getting to a 200mbps shouldn't be a problem. I called Xfinity tech support, they said it's a problem with my modem, but from Xfinity's website (http://mydeviceinfo.xfinity.com/), it says my modem is capable of handling 200mbps speed and there isn't any setting at all. So I don't really know what is going on. Got any ideas??

Problem solved. We had an internet interruption in our neighborhood after I posted this. It was supposed to address speed issues. After It was back up. I checked my speed by connecting to the modem a few days afterward. To my surprise, I got 233 mbps!! It wasn't the problem with the modem after all. Unfortunately I still got 94 mbps when using wifi. I did some research of my wireless router (TP-Link AC1350 model C59, v2), my version only supports 100 mbps. The newer version of AC1350 would support the gigabit speed but not my version.  I ended up just got a new router. After I installed the new router, I now get 233 mbps via wifi!

94 mbps is almost exactly what I'd expect from a computer with an older 'fast ethernet' adapter.

Are you certain that your computer has a gig ethernet adapter?

Can you ask your computer what speed it is connecting at?

@zip21222  I have two laptops, one older and one newer (bought a year ago), both show 94 mbps with a cat5 enhanced cable. Not sure how I check the speed of my ethernet adapter. When I connect via Wi-FI, I also only get about 94 mbps. With Wi-fi, I'm not using the ethernet adapter anymore, right?

That surely is odd. I would certainly expect a year old laptop to have a gig ethernet adapter.

What OS and version is the newer laptop running?

Can you post your upstream and downstream power levels, plus your modem's event log?

(be sure to redact any MAC addresses or IP addresses from the log.)

Thx
