new router connected to existing-activated modem
I have an Arris S33 cable modem and a LinkSys router that has been working fine. I now want to switch to a new router and still use the existing S33 modem. When I change the modem-router connection to the new router the new router has no internet. I thought I only had to activate the modem when I got this all setup before.
Do I need to activate any new router connected to the existing modem also?
And if I need to switch back to the old router do I need to re-activate the old router again?

No. Standalone routers do not need to be activated. FWIW, you need to power cycle/re-boot the cable modem each and every time that you change the device that is being directly connected to it in order for that device to be able to get an internet connection.
