New Arris S34 Install
Helping a friend who had a lot of issues with an older Motorola modem Docsis 3.0 or older and not so great TP-link router.
Put together an S34 capable of the mid split speeds and Ubiquiti Unifi Express 7 which is ideal for this small 3 room apartment.
Took a while to activate -- could not self activate it didn't like the HFC Mac when entered. Support chat got it going for us.
It on the 1.2 Gig x 40 Mbps plan and with 6 ghz wifi on 80 mhz channel my pixel 7 speed tested solid 900+ down x 40+ up. Really nice actually.
With teleport I can check the UX7 and modem signals remotely anytime which is great.
Only thing I'm seeing that I'm wondering if I should be concerned is only 4 channels have had a bit of correctable / uncorrectables over the course of 36 gigabytes that has gone through the modem the first 24 hours of using the service. SNR seems a bit low with some a 37.4 but I understand 35 is the minimum. I'm used to seeing 40's on SNR. Power levels are all in spec and actually pretty decent being all close to zero.
Any thoughts on channels 39 - 42 ? The service seems to work really well and I think resolved her problems. She was having TV (Roku) issues during congested times and wifi phones wanting to switch to rather unusable cellular where they are. Wifi devices all using 5 ghz on DFS channel 100 to avoid noise 80 mhz width and typical phy rates of up to 480 Mbps to 1.2 Gbps over the air. Seems to rip!
BTW if you are comfortable with Ubiquiti's ecosystem, the UX7 (Unifi Express 7) is a fantastic small dwelling all-in-one solution where you can remotely help someone w/ hybrid cloud access and seamless teleport VPN to look at the modem remotely etc. I'm hoping things will finally be good for her daily usage. Will see how the first week with the new equipment goes!
