Netgear CM700 with gigabit internet??

So I just upgraded to gigabit internet and according to the my account info it shows that this modem is compatible with the 1000Mbps internet but customer service is telling me that this modem is NOT since it is DOCSIS 3.0 and Gigabit needs a DOCSIS 3.1 modem. I was getting around 600Mbps down/18up on my previous plan and not im getting 700Mbps down / 6up. Does anyone have any experience with this modem and the gigabit internet plan? Not sure why my upload speed with get cut by 1/3 with the gigabit plan tho.

It says the max speed you’ll get for download is 940Mbps via modem on their site.

@sumanch
Did you read any of the posts? The modem is not approved by Comcast for Gigabit speeds

@CCAndrew

I don't see anyone saying definitively that it's not supported and the technician I spoke with said it wasn't clear if it was/wasn't supported, but that it should work for more speed than what I was getting. Why are so many people in this same thread saying they're getting 950Mbps?

This is who’s saying it, and that’s all that matters. Go there, choose your speed levels, and see where it falls

But that still doesnt answer the question as to why all of a sudden his speed is cut in half. I Have the same modem and after upgrading my speed is worse than what I had before...

So I just upgraded to gigabit too and before was getting maybe 400max (which I was on 400 mb plan) and now after upgradeing to gigabit im getting 200 mbs... which is silly. I know the CM700 cant take the full gigabit but was hoping it would be 500-700 mbs even maybe max at the 935mbs like its stated... I dont need those extra 70mb/s but im not even getting half of what I am paying for.

Please re-read this thread in its entirety. You'll never get gig speed with a CM 700 modem. It is only DOCSIS 3.0 capable. A DOCSIS 3.1 modem like the SB8200 is required.

If a non-compatible modem is used, it will default to using a lower speed tier configuration file. This includes the upload speed as well.

Please feel free to create a new thread of your own here on this board if you have further concerns. 11 month old dead thread now being closed.

[Edit] You beat me Andrew 😮

When you don’t use the proper equipment for the compatible speeds of what’s associated with your account, the modem is given a much lower speed default bootfile. It doesn’t matter what speeds you had previously, it’s what’s happening today. You either use the proper compatible equipment or drop your speeds that you are paying for that matches your equipment or do nothing and pay for speeds you’ll never get.
