netgear c7000 combo modem error questions
i just got this netgear c7000 modem/router unit. and i have 100mbps download speed i pay for and when i do a test using speedtest.net i get 30mbps and then it may go up to 100mbps or not. but my main questions is when i go into the event logs i see 1,000's of errors for rainging. now i did see them with the c3700 modem i just replaced but that modem also gave me tons of this site is not safe and also my phones and tablets could not connect to the internet. i think i had a power spike after an outage.
this is what i see in the basic cable connection page.

this is the advance admin event log
Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=[Edited: "Personal Information"];CMTS-MAC=[Edited: "Personal Information"];CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0;
16 consecutive T3 timeouts while trying to range on upstream channel 2;CM-MAC=[Edited: "Personal Information"];CMTS-MAC=[Edited: "Personal Information"];CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0;
so what might i have to do that get this fixed it it is a real issue?
i did have this on the c3700 modem at the end but i may have had it all along as i did not ever look for these logs untill i started to get those messages when i was browsing and the this site is not safe started to show. then i started looking at these logs trying to understand the errors i got last week with a failing modem.
this modem i have now the c7000 came from ebay and it very well could be bad. the next step i guess will be to get a comcast modem and then when the tech installs it have him check the event log and the other logs in that section and if it shows these same issues have him fix it. then rent the modem for a bit and then go back to my own modem. that way if the rental has no errors i can figure the lines are good all the way back to the head end? correct? thanks

FWIW, noise ingress into the lines / return path somewhere can also cause the un-bonding of the upstream channels.
There are other signal stat figures that can't be read by the modem. They are the "Upstream Rx Power" (Upstream Receive Power Level), the "Upstream SNR Ch." (Upstream Signal To Noise Ratio), and the "Upstream ICFR" (In Channel Frequency Response). These are as equally important in diagnosing connectivity issues as are the modem's stats.
You can call in to Customer Service and ask a rep about them. They will be able to poll the CMTS to see whether or not everything is in the green zone, see your node / cable plant and modem health, and also see a history plot for the modem. Good luck !

the other modem they were not there either so how can i get this fixed? i was on the phone with tech trying to get this modem connected and they did not notice that, but they did have a time with connections..
when i look at the basic-cable connections where is show all the connections i see tons of correctibles. so what ar those? and can i n=move the starting frequency around to make thst correctibls go away? or is that given to me by the cable company?
my last modem i think got spiked eith by a power outage 2 weeks ago or by me when i was testing the breakers for installing a generator, and i turned off the breaker to themodem a few times in a row and i may have spiked it. it is on a surge protector power strip, but a spike may have got thru. or that modem just failed. but after that failure started and i was getting just about every time i went to any site on the internet, i got this site is not safe and i got blocked.
i thought comcast at that time put a block on my internet but i did get thru somtimes. the last time they put a filter/block on my internet, i still got cable but no internet and they said i was broadcasting. i do not understand that as i have one line from the pole tap to the house ground block and then on into the house to the modem. at that point they put in a splitter that has the output taps that say -3.5 on them. one goes to the tv and one goes to the modem. i did take the cable off that splitter and connected the modem thry a barrel connector to the modem and nothing changed, so i figure that splitter is still good. in fact when i cleared the logs and they came back the same. and then i turned off the modem to reset it and they were the same.
they told me i have 1 upstream becasue i have 5mbps upstream, that was the same with the other modem, that modem had 8x4 the new modem has 24x8 and i do see the 24 channel down but still 1 up. thanks

i did and it did not change when i did that a few days ago. also i just had the cable off the modem for like 30 minutes as i drilled holes in the floor joists and re ran the cable thru them and back to the modem. this time i did not put any bends, i pushed the 3' extra cable up into the support for the floor joists and that gave it a relaxed curve. and i did chack the cable for nicks and nothing out of the ordanary. i do have some rg6 form the cable company my brother gave me and i'm leaning on running that from the ground block thru the house, istead of along the aluminum siding like they did.
anyway after i reconnected the cable back and the modem came back online almost instantly the errors all came back. so it is either the modem of which i'm not thinking is causeing that as the old failing modem ahd the exact same issue. so i'm goint to start a chant sith comcast and schedule a high level tech to stop out and fix it. unless they tell me they can't fix it. then i may just cancel cable and go with frountier. as i already use ota for tv and on the cable box all i get is the same channels. and believe it or not when the ots is out so it the same cable channels. i only have the cable because it was cheaper for the bundle that just internet.

when i was on the phone last night with the tech they made me go to comcast's speed test not the speedtest.net. they said the comcast speed test was all they can go by. i just now did the comcast test and i get 92mbps out of the 100mbps i pay for. then on the speedtest.net site i get 25mbps.
i still have 0 correctibles and un correctibles so that is good. maybe all those errors i'm seeing are not that important if i get online and everything i do seems normal. so maybe i'm messing with things that are of no realavance to me? but ihave 30 day to keep this modem and that is one reason i'm after it because if it turns out to be bad i need to return it before the 30 days are up or i'm out 150$ that i do not want to eat for a bad modem. thanks

The reason that their *in house* speed tests show faster speed is because their speed testing servers lie on *their* network's edge, therefore they are not subject to any third party's potential backbone deficiencies / routing deficiencies / distance related latency issues etc;

ok this is what i did. i can't say that it is the 100% fix yet only time is going to tell .
based on the reply form eg entered below my reply, i got a kit that lets me reterminate the cable ends. to what comcast used. now theya re all the same from the pole to the device and tv.
then after about 8 hours it seemed to reset and now it is working ok speed back up and steady at 120mpbs
ed's reply thanks ed.
