Netflix blocks my ip address after moving to xb8 gateway
My home internet IP address is flagged by Netflix as a VPN. Can you assign me a normal residential IP address?

Hello, @user_b4s4gf. I appreciate you making us aware you're no longer able to connect to Netflix after updating your modem. In case you weren't aware, your able to update your IP address on your own. Please visit this link to learn how https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/releasing-and-renewing-ip-address.

Probably not.
When used with a Comcast/Xfinity gateway Release/Renew would perhaps change the user's public IP if the gateway was in bridge mode. Even then, there's a good chance they'll just get the same public IP back again. When the gateway is not in bridge mode Release/Renew would perhaps change the user's local/private IP, but not the public one.
With their rental devices like the XB8 they do not provide a way to change the IP address and they won't change it for you, so you'd have to:

@BruceW is correct.
Doing that on a computer / device that is connected to a stand-alone router or a combo modem / router gateway device will only serve to renew / change the LAN / private IP address that is assigned to a computer / device by the router's built-in DHCP server. It will not renew the WAN / public IP address that is assigned to the router by Comcast's / system / DHCP server.

In addition, the link provided by the Rep does not work, so it is all moot.

https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/releasing-and-renewing-ip-address doesn't work for you? It's of no use to the OP, but it seems accessible. A pity that employees don't seem to know how to make links "clickable".

@NoNoBadPuppy
Hmmm. It works for me if I copy and paste it into my browser's address bar. The employee just did not make it a clickable hyperlink.
