Need more storage

I have a ARRIS TG1682G.

How do i connect an external harddrive for more storage?

The 2 USB ports don't work.

If you want to access those type of ports, you’ll need to buy your own equipment.

You'd need to use a storage system that connects using Ethernet. See https://www.google.com/search?q=external+harddrive+ethernet.
