Need IPv4 Enabled – Only Getting IPv6

I'm experiencing an issue with my work laptop where my Xfinity Gateway is only assigned an IPv6 address and not an IPv4 address, which is preventing access to certain websites. My work's IT team has tried to diagnose the issue, and I need assistance. Here are the details: My router is only assigning an IPv6 address with no IPv4 address. My computer is set to DHCP, not static IP. Using the laptop, I can connect to the internet via mobile hotspot and access all websites. I cannot ping Google’s IPv4 DNS servers, but I can ping google.com and receive an IPv6 response. I have updated my Wi-Fi driver using the hotspot. This issue occurs whether I am hard-wired or connected via Wi-Fi. Other devices are working fine.

Thank you for reaching out. I hope you are doing well. I appreciate you taking the time to create a new post. You can try to release and renew your IP address, but this may stay the same. We don't provide a static IP on residential services, but it is available on Comcast Business accounts. Current, the xFi App does not give you the option to change this at this time.

FWIW. Doing that on a computer / device that is connected to a stand-alone router or a combo modem / router gateway device will only serve to renew / change the LAN / private IP address that is assigned to a computer / device by the router's built-in DHCP server. It will not renew the WAN / public IP address that is assigned to the router by Comcast's / system / DHCP server.

Whoa there... go ahead and try to release/renew your IP like they say (it probably won't work), but otherwise ignore that response from the official rep, it's a weird and bad response that doesn't really apply, and makes me think they didn't understand the question. The Xfinity Gateway should 100% be giving you both a v4 and v6 address. Is that the only router you have, or are you plugging the laptop into your own router that then chains itself to the Xfinity Gateway? Have you tried factory-resetting the Xfinity gateway, usually by depressing a small button with a paperclip? Be aware that doing that might require you to call in to the Xfinity support and get the gateway activated again (I'm not actually sure, since I don't use an Xfinity gateway....) Some others might be able to offer more/better advice. Good luck!
