Need a change in DNS configuration for smart thermostat

Xfinity recently upgraded equipment in my area and since then my smart thermostat can’t connect to Wi-Fi. The AprilAire support specialist ran a report and said I need to ask Xfinity to change the DNS configuration to Google’s DNS (8.8.8.8) because the thermostat will not connect if the router is using the Comcast DNS (75.75.75.75)
