my printer, a HP 6500a, wont connect to wifi.
so im having an issue where my printer will not connect to my wifi.
i used to have it on the network via a cat5 cable, but after moving it, its no longer possible. no problems, it has wifi.
so before, i had the xb7 modem, id push the button, the blue light would blink, the printer would say error connecting and thats it.. it wont try again.
so i call and talk to someone in tech and i got talked into getting the xb8.. its so much better they said.. faster and everything..
i get home, connect the xb8 and it is fast, seems to quieter too, cant hear the fan inside.
but check it out, my printer still wont connect..
so i go into the settings and i print the wifi report and it says this.
No Filtering --------- FAIL
this means my MAC address of my printer is being blocked by your modem/router.. :(
i cant find any setting in the awesomely put together android companion app to turn it off.
please tell me how to get my printer to work..

It has an 802.11 b/g/n radio in it. Your Xb8 is WiFi 6. You got a couple of options.
1. USB or Ethernet
2. WiFi Direct -- connect with the printer internal radio directly: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06584212.pdf (range is limited, but might work for you).
3. You can try to change radio modes on your XB8 -- enable 2.4G and 5G WiFi modes: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/change-wifi-mode-admin-tool-xfinity-xfi (Try the phone app. Some say the option doesn't show up anymore)
4. Buy a cheap 802.11 b/g/n access point. Connect it to the Ethernet port on your gateway. Some are Power over Ethernet. Make sure it comes with a power adapter.

I have the exact same problem; but I do not understand your answer at all. I have HP officejet 4630 which worked perfectly with my old modem. I am in the add Wi-Fi Client on the gateway itself but it seems a little too easy to be true.
When I try pair from the printer it times out so if I try from the gateway itself with that help?

i really wish i could use my printer.
so far nothing i do can make my printer connect to the wifi on the XB8.. its being blocked by the MAC address.
the only solution would be to buy a new router and connect it to the XB8 in access point mode and have 2 wifi networks one just for the printer.
it seems like they have done this on purpose just to make their devices you have to rent worse than their competition.
