My modem is overheating and making weird noises

We have an XB6-T modem and it gets really hot and at times makes a noise like it's broken inside.

A well known problem. The cooling fan is malfunctioning. There is no fix other than to get it swapped out for another. Take it to your local Xfinity store or ship it back for free via UPS and have them ship you another one. You can even get *home pickup*.

Hi, there, @user_c1f800. @EG is totally right about needing to change the modem. Have you been able to swap it or have a plan to swap it at your local Xfinity store or would you prefer that we set up a shipment instead?

I work from home and can't be without internet for longer than a weekend. Do you have an option so I don't go without internet?

I work from home too and totally understand where you are coming from, @user_c1f800. There is no need to be offline. You can pick up a new modem or we can ship one to you. After you hook it up and get it working, you can then return the modem that is making noise. The process to get it working should take about 10 minutes using the Xfinity app.

You can drop equipment off at your local Xfinity store. The location and hours can be found at the bottom of the main screen in the Xfinity My Account app. There are also 2 convenient UPS options for equipment return. If you have a printer you can sign in at this link, UPS Returns, and print a shipping label. From there you put it in a box and call 1-800-PICK-UPS (1-800-742-5877). They will come to get the package from you. The other option is to drop it off at your local UPS store. They will box, label, and ship it back to us. You just say this goes to Comcast, no account information is required. All of the options are free so please use the one that is most convenient for you.

If you are working a lot would it be easier for us to ship the modem to you?

The shipping option sounds perfect. Please ship me a new one and I'll return the old one! 😊

I followed these directions and sent information as directed to the support team. It's been several days and I have not heard anything back. Can I get an update?
