The cooling fan is probably malfunctioning. Get them to swap it out for another / latest model.

Buy an external desk fan and keep it on 24/7 or when you use it to cool down your hot modem. However, to get consistent signals and no service interruption, you had better switch to a new modem. I switched my old modem got from 11/2019 to the latest model last month, and the new modem was only warm even when it's busy. I rent modem from Xfinity, so there's no cost for modem change. Also, if there's any service interruption or data overage due to rental modem malfunction issue, Xfinity will not charge you extra for tech visit fee and data overage fee.

FWIW, and IMHO. Before spending any money, try getting the device swapped out as I stated and see.

This is happening to me too.  Tech was out and changed a filter on the external line and moved some debri near the register box outside.  We told him / showed him how the box was really hot.  Before he left, we thought it was working but 10 min. after he left it was cutting out again.  Xfinity tech is not easy to get a hold of now we are back where we started, this has been over a week now with frustration.
