@stevevm

You likely recently received a new / different WAN (public) IP address assignment to your connection from their DHCP server / IP address pool, and the rDNS / geolocation data that is associated with it is now incorrect for you as it previously belonged to someone else that lived in that other area.

Comcast shuffles blocks of IP addresses around the country all the time. And after doing local plant maintenance / upgrades. ISP's don't correct this. A third party service does. Unfortunately, this is typically a *back-burner* thing to get corrected. The only thing that you can do is to report it. You can try this;

https://www.maxmind.com/en/geoip-location-correction

http://www.ipligence.com/contact/

https://www.ip2location.com/contact/

https://www.home.neustar/contact-us

https://support.google.com/websearch/contact/ip/

Wait for the geolocation provider to approve your request. If your request is approved, the amount of time it takes to see the correction varies by provider. The average is a month or more.

P.S.

If you are using a router that has a MAC address cloning feature, you can clone a different MAC address into it. This will force a change of your Comcast assigned WAN / public IP address. No guarantees that the new address won't also have incorrect geo-data as it may be from the same block of IP's. YMMV.

I did this on maxmind and google could not figure out how to do this on the others.

But I should not have to do this, Xfinity should.

If I tell them them this is an issue, they should fix the geolocation of my IP address

I have exactly the same issue. Ever since Comcast performed work in my neighborhood over this past month, my IP address is now geo-located almost 250 miles away in Jackson, MS while I actually live in Bartlett, TN. Previously, the geo-location of the public IP on my modem was almost exactly on top of my home. This plays havoc on any kind of geolocation services such as GrubHub, UberEats, or DoorDash.

Begrudgingly, I submitted an IP location change request to multiple services listed above. But we should not have to rely on 3rd party services to correct an obvious Comcast issue. The fact the Comcast support says the only option is to contact the modem manufacturer is absolutely ridiculous! They also suggested an ipconfig /release and /renew while directly connected to the modem. Obviously, this has no effect whatsoever. Why did you change my frickin IP to begin with? It was working perfectly before!

@user_03c01au I'm having the same problem. We had an outage a few days ago, which xfinity knew about, and when we were finally got reconnected it was to a city 150 miles away. I didn't pick up on the fact that Hulu's error message was related to this change until I noticed that our local stations were changed.

I've gone through the power off modem and router and then turn them back on, modem first then when it's connected power on the router. Still connected to the wrong city.

One of the most annoying things is that trying to find out how to notify xfinity is almost impossible. I can't find a phone number [Edited: "Inflammatory/Language"]

@user_03c01au Here's how to send that requested "Direct Message";

Click "Sign In" if necessary.

Click the "Direct Message" icon  in the upper right corner or https://forums.xfinity.com/direct-messaging

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon.

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there.

As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list.

An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line.

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window.

Press Enter to send it.

Same thing here. About two months ago my IP geolocation moved to 50 miles south of my actual location. When will Xfinity fix this?

@Anon296804 They Won't.  It's also not an Xfinity problem.  Location data is handled by 3rd party data brokers, and they're buying data from web sites and cell providers.  See above.

If you are having an issue with a specific paid service like  a geo-fence on a streaming service that is blocking content, you'll have to contact their support to remove the block.
