Multiple 2.5Gbps ports?

I recently had the XFI Advanced Gateway XB8 installed with my 1.2Gbps service and found out that only 1 port provides >1Gbps , while the other 3 ports only provide 1Gbps max speeds. After buying a new ethernet dongle which supports up to 2.5Gbps for my MacBook, I now see speeds above 1Gbps and have hit a high of 1.3Gbps. Now, I have 2 desktops and 1 MacBook which will need ethernet connections, but so far, the XB8 only has 1 connection giving my actual speed, while the other ports don't give my full speed which im paying for.

So what i'm wondering is, does Xfinity provide a switch or different gateway with multiple >1Gbps ports or do I have to go out and buy a switch to split up the individual 2.5Gbps port into 4? If that is the case, then what is the point of the gateway?

Well.  It's what you are renting for $14-16/month depending on your market.  One port is a 2.5G, the others are 1G ports.

If you are shuffling really big files between your internal devices all the time, then you want to do the networking and routing with something else.  Buy a plane cable modem and a router that can do what you want.  Usually, router and modem will have to support LAG (link aggregation) to get the connection between the router up over 1Gbps for your 1.2Gbps service.  Check the manuals before you buy.  The router may have 2.5Gbps ports, but the modem may have to bond two Ethernet cables together to get there.

No, your devices on the inside won't have a 2.5Gbps internet connection.  You are limited to your internet service.
