Moving modem from upstairs bedroom to downstairs bedroom
My fiancé and I recently moved into a new rental property and while the signal strength says strong I would still like to be hardwired into the Gateway. We have the xfi system with the top tier internet speed. I have a cable outlet ran into our main floor spare bedroom but it’s not “activated”. The bedroom I want to gateway moved has a cable outlet on the outside wall which runs from the bedroom, along the exterior wall of the house and directly into the Comcast box. The wire is not connected to anything and looks like it has a half black cap on it. Can I run a splitter and hook the bedroom cable outlet coax to said splitter and have that bedroom cable outlet “active”

The configuration described is possible but would suggest avoiding splitter in front of the gateway.
A more efficient scenario would be using a "directly from the tap" connection to the bedroom where the Gateway is and from there connect a switch and ethernet to other hardwired locations in home or connect via WIFI directly from gateway to those hard to get to locations..
Be sure and locate the cable that comes in from the street and assuming its terminated properly, screw it onto the gateway and go from there.
Just my .2 cents.
Thanks and good luck.

You may want to get a Comcast tech out to figure this out for you. Customers are not supposed to go into any Comcast "boxes" or touch any Comcast taps. Techs also have a special tool to remove any possible locking / terminator caps on coax cables. Good luck !

Hey just so not confused, no one is suggesting tampering with Comcast equipment at the street where "tap" distributes signal to surrounding residences..
The primary cable that comes in to the residence and is inside the homeowners house is referred to in this example.
Be sure and contact Comcast customer service prior to and before changing any wiring especially if not comfortable with any suggestions.
Just my .2 cents.
Thanks and good luck.
