We received our new "upgraded" modem and our wifi is worse than it's ever been.

user_8dbv6y Thank you so much for reaching out for help with your connection since receiving your new modem. When getting a new modem, they are connected to your account, so it will work most times out of the box; however, you do need to use the Xfinity app to complete the activation. I would recommend starting there. Check your currently activated modem to make sure that it matches the new modem. If not, you can use the Xfinity app to complete the activation. 

If your new modem is showing activated, have you already attempted the troubleshooting option in the Xfinity app?
