I appreciate the answer. If I plug my modem into an extender and then use that to run multiple cables to multiple devices, doesn't that weaken the signal? Not unlike extension cords? You want one 30 ft cord not three 10 ft cords plugged into each other
I'm guessing you're not talking about an Xfinity Gateway since the XB8 has 4 ports.
Are you talking about a modem or a combo modem+WiFi router? Modems with more than one port are a bit unusual, but there are some models with multiple ports to support link aggregation. That's going away since 2.5Gb ethernet is becoming common and link aggregation never worked all that well in the first place. As for 3rd party combo modem + WiFi router units and WiFi routers, those aren't Comcast's problem and if they're dropping down from 4 ports to 2 it's probably just a cost saving measure. Lots of people go WiFi only these days, and if you need more ports you can just use a switch. Nicer ones also tend to have 2.5Gb ports.
IDK. I had a modem. It had 4 Ethernet outputs. After a year or so it broke down about a year ago. A Xfinity tech looked into it, said it was defective said I could return it and get a new one no charge. I took the old one in they handed me this know rectangular black one. I said "this only has two spots to hard wire my electronics to." Lady basically said "this one's better, shut up and take it." Now I can't hardwire everything I want to because on things like ps4, Wi-Fi does NOT cut it.

Yep. See https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/broadband-gateways-userguides. For reasons known only to Comcast, but likely to save themselves a few pennies, the XB6 model only has two Ethernet ports. All the rest, including the most recent and even the most ancient ones, have four.

If you need more ports you can use an ethernet switch such as one of these;

Just plug it into one of the ports on the gateway.
