Modem reset?

My power flickered several times during the ice storm. My modem didn’t come back up. I hit the reset button several times and it didn’t work. After several minutes I suddenly got a message that my modem was “reset to factory settings”. I’ve never experienced this before, is it something new, or do I have a problem?

When the device is reset back to factory defaults, it's normal for the WiFi SSID and the password to revert back to being the original ones from the factory.

@EG​ I just don’t understand why it reverted back to factory settings. I’ve used the reset button on the back several times, and never had that problem before.

Perhaps you held it in longer than you did before ? Short presses will result in a powercycle / reboot operation. A longer press would result in a full hard factory reset to defaults.

That could be, it didn’t seem to be working, so I held it longer the last time.

@EG​ I was after I renamed the modern and changed the password. It’s just the fact nothing like that ever happened before, makes me wonder if something is wrong
