Modem not supported? NOT HAPPY
Just installed Xfinity internet. Researched a modem (don't want to pay the rental), and settled on the Motorola MG7315.
On the BOX, it says it is approved for Xfinity. On Xfinity's own WEBSITE it says it is approved. However, when it came to install today, I was informed that it is no longer supported.
I took one of their modems so I would at least have internet while I figured this out, but it SURE smells like bait-and-switch.
Did the technology change? Is DOCSIS 3.0 no longer the standard?
I am already ready to quit Xfinity, and it's been three hours.

It's an outdated gateway. Comcast doesn't want new users to be using an old 8-channel modem. I wouldn't use it for anything beyond Performance (typically 100Mbit). The specs say 343MBit, but this is with all 8 channels at 100%, which will never happen in real life. You don't want to use more than 25-30% of capacity.

Thanks, all.
We are subscribed to the 100 Mbits tier, no phone.

Give this automated device activation line a shot: 1-855-652-3446. Even if the automation fails, you then get connected to an advanced repair representative rather than a tier 1 phone rep. Good luck !!!
