Modem login

A fellow came to do some repair on what we thought was my modem, but it turned out to be a connection outide that was found weeks later. My problem is that the initial repairman reset my login settings to my modem and I can no longer access it from the home page. Would a hard reset work or should I go and trade in my modem.
