MB8611 Gigabit Extra 1200/200 Certification

Are Xfinity/Motorola working to certify the MB8611 for Gigabit Extra (1200/200)?  If so, when is the expected completion date?

Same question here. Looks like the modem should be capable of higher upstream speeds.

Hello, @machat you can review this link https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices/#unauth for Comcast-approved devices. There is a button marked for next-generation speed devices. We ask that you check the recommended devices page frequently as new devices are added.

"Motorola" modems aren't made by Motorola.  They're made by a company called Minim under a license from Lenovo, which holds the Motorola trademark.  Minim has had some financial problems lately and laid off 78% of their staff last September https://finance.yahoo.com/news/minim-reduces-staff-78-bankruptcy-035900900.html  I don't have any information on DOCSIS 3.1/OFDMA support for faster upload speeds, but given Minim's problems I can guess where that's likely going.

The trap I fell into was receiving an email from Xfinity stating Gagabit Ertra (1200/200) was available in my area (metro Atlanta).  It also listed modem model numbers for the upgrade.  My original service was Gigabit (1000/40) using a Surfboard 8200.  I really wanted the upgrade for 200 upload. Based on what I saw in the email, purchased an Arris S33.  It did not work so I purchase another, and it did not work.  After three home visits from Xfinity, I, like everyone, else learned the Arris modem was not certified.  I then read a tread that made me think Motorola MB8611 would work, so I order one.  Then read another thread confirming it would not work, and the same individual exchanged it for a Hitron Coda56.  It worked no problems.  I have ordered a Coda56 and will receive it in a week or so.  In the meantime, I’ve retuned the Arris modems (Thank you Amazon).  Can’t return the MB8611, I purchased on Ebay.  This is the reason for my original inquiry about the MB8611.  If I had received a definitive reply about the MB8611, then the Coda56 would back to Amazon.  Somebody at Xfinity should know for both the MB8611 and A33.

@user_l3tafh Thank you for sending us a direct message. Unfortunately I do not have a good answer for you as we have not been provided any details on what devices will be approved/certified in the future or if so, when it would happen. The MB8611 and S33 are certified and recommended devices for supporting our non-Next Gen Speed Tiers. At this time only a limited number of retail devices are available for the Next Gen Speed Tier. Both the Next Gen modems and recommended modems can be found here .
I'm sorry that I don't have any specifics for you regarding the devices and certifications, but you can always check My Device Info for the available options and supported tiers.
@EG Thank you for helping us keep this community informative for everyone.

It is unfortunate Xfinity would send me (wish I had kept it) an email promoting Gigabit Extra (1200/200) and recommend the Arris S33 modem.  It seemed fair straight forward, purchase an Arris S33, and then upgrade.  Obviously, this is a major disconnect; and again, while I appreciate your effort, it is unfortunate your team is unable to provide detailed information one way or the other.  For me it is somewhat confusing that Hitron Coda56, also recommended, is the only third-party modem approved/certified that will work in this application.

One last comment.  In hindsight, and having studied the links you provided, I have to admit because I did not see an obvious (or understand) the connection between “Next Gen Speed Tiers” and the “Gigabit Extra (1200/200)” plan, I just assumed all “recommended” modems would work. I believe I relied too much on the promotional email, and my preference for upgrading from an Arris 8200 to the Arris S33 cable modem. Any way I look to completing the upgrade after receiving the Hitron coda56 next week.  Again, thanks for your help.

@Jlavaseur

It's still on the list. It's just not among the "Recommended" anymore.
