Mac filtering alternative

I have a Tech savvy son that changes his Mac address in order to go around the parental controls by just readding his "new" device. I've been using Mac filtering that does the job, but most of my other devices drop on and off the network. This is becoming a hassle to manage this network every moment of every day. Is there another way to only allow certain devices on the network instead of always allowing anything to connect?

Hi there, @Mrb2000. Thank you for creating this post. The way we have for our customers to manage devices on their network is via the Xfinity app or the Xfinity Internet settings from the website. If you are having issues where your son is changing the MAC to regain access, I would recommend changing the password for the gateway and keep changing it every so often and only inputting it yourself to his device to avoid him being able to connect. Have you tried this method before?

@XfinityEdgardo yes, i have changed the password a few times, however, with 6 people in the home and over 20 devices, Im sure you can agree that changing the password on 20 devices each time is not a sustainable solution.

I can definitely understand that as I just changed the password to my home wifi network and had to do it to all my devices. It is definitely a lot of work. Unfortunately, we do not have a way to avoid connections on our end as our devices use the password to connect to the gateway. You can always assign the devices to their own profiles and pause their usage on the gateway, however, from what you explained, your son has bypassed it by changing the MAC address, which assign it a new one would indeed make it seem like a new device for the gateway.

I no longer work for Comcast.
