MAC Address Filtering & XB7

Hello:

Back in January, our XB7 gateway received a firmware update that broke (introduced a software regression) within our MAC Address Filtering Wi-Fi options.  For years, we have used a MAC ALLOW list to only allow our specific devices on our Wi-Fi local home network.  Following this XB7 firmware update, our Wi-Fi devices no longer connect to our XB7's Wi-Fi network(s).  If I switch the MAC filtering options to ALLOW-ALL, the devices will connect; however, if I configure this setting back to ALLOW, as it has been for years, our devices cannot connect.  Unfortunately, the MAC Address Filtering configurations are still experiencing this software regression.  Additionally, our XB7 Wi-Fi local home network is configured with a single SSID for both the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks.

I see where several people have had similar issues, with MAC Address Filtering; however, I wanted to reach out and see if others have been able to remedy this situation, either by reaching out to Comcast/xFinity technical support and/or by other methods.  I look forward to any assistance.  Thank you!

Hello, @user_6b96bf Historically, you were encouraged to use a different Wi-Fi name and password for each band. You then had to choose which band your devices should connect to. Knowing which would provide the best connection and performance was guesswork. That’s now changed. With the advanced intelligence of xFi Gateways, using the same name and password for the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6GHz (if applicable) bands lets the Gateway sort out which one will provide a better connection at any given time.

You will still have all bands and all the associated functionality, channels, and range. However, by using the same Wi-Fi name and password for all, devices will connect seamlessly to the most optimal band at any given time. This is called "band steering." If you still want to change your Wi-Fi Network name and password this article https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/view-change-wifi-password will assist.

How do you alter the MAC filtering options? I can't seem to find that configuration setting.

I am having the same and related problems. I am trying to add a new wireless printer and am unable to do so because of this MAC address problem. I have spent 5 hours tonight with upwards of a dozen Xfinity people, none of which knows how to fix this.

I am having the same problem.  When set to allow, no access.  In addition, when I update the MAC list, entries seem to disappear.  this is weird.  Previously I had one of the black tower modems and mac filtering worked perfectly.  I've tried it with two different XB7-T modems and both have the same problem.  Something is broke.

Hello user_mvyssz we hope that you're having a wonderful day.  Several features that used to reside in the Admin Portal have now transitioned to the Xfinity App, such as setting up Port Forwarding and configuring LAN/WAN settings.  For the Band-Steering to create a unified network, this can be adjusted in the Xfinity App. Just Select the "Wi-Fi" Tab, then " Wi-Fi Details" and "Edit Wi-Fi Settings"  The option to enable Split Bands is at the bottom of this pop-up page.
