Some of the modems/gateways have a fan that may be making some noise. If it gets dusty, it may get out of balance and make some noise. Blowing some canned air may help clean it up. Also, putting it on a different surface may affect the noise if it causes a shelf to resonate. Even putting something underneath it may help isolate any vibrations.
But then you have to deal with the hassle of getting it changed (going to an Xfinity store or waiting for delivery), whether the replacement will be the same or maybe a worse model with the same issues. Having to redo all your login and WiFi passwords, any special settings, etc... A few basic checks may fix it before going through all that.
Once the fan motor bearings are worn out (if that's the problem), no amount of blowing out any dust will help. They can't even be lubed. And AFAIK, the settings carry over from device to device. To each, their own.

A very common problem here. There is no fix other than to have Comcast swap it out for another.

IMO. Why mess with it ??? That's a bonus of what you pay for by renting it from them. Have them swap it. Get on with your life.
