Lost routable IP address and VPN remote access after XB8 replacement

I had an XB7 for a while, and subsequently an XB8, for many years. For the last year, I have been using the XB8 in bridge mode with my own pfSense router.

Everything worked fine, including the OpenVPN running on my router that allowed me to access my home automation system with Home Assistant.

My XB8 died (wouldn't power up). So, I picked up a replacement yesterday, and set it up in bridge mode, just like the previous unit.

The problem is that my router is now getting assigned an IP address of 10.0.0.189, with a gateway address of 10.0.0.1. Addresses in the 10.x.y.z space are not publicly routable from the outside. Because of this, I can no longer connect to my home VPN with my smartphone running on cellular network.

How can I resolve this and get a public IP as I have always had ?

Never mind. The [Edited: Language] xFinity app overrode the changes I made initially via Ethernet to turn on bridge mode, and reverted it to router mode.

I wish I didn't have to use that app at all, as used to be the case. The only function I needed was activation. Just about everything the app does, such as turning on Wifi, needed to be undone.

Hey, @madbrain76! Thanks again for reaching out to us. I'm glad to hear that you were able to get the modem set back up how you wanted it. At this time due to the firmware on the modem, everything for settings is pretty much routed through the app. We will take this feedback and pass it along to the proper channels for future enhancement. Please let us know if there is anything else we would be able to assist you with
