Looking for official Xfinity documentation or advice on setting up MoCA connection with a XB6-A

I want to run an ethernet connection from one of my Coaxial ports in my home office instead of running ethernet throughout the home. I’m trying to piece together how this all works.

  • I have a Multi-room DVR filter connected outside to the Coaxial cable. Is this considered a MoCA filter?
  • Inside the home the main line is connected to a MoCA compliant splitter that feeds lines throughout my home.
  • My research tells me I need a hook up an additional MoCA splitter at the Coax outlet that I intend to use.
  • My research says that the MoCA splitter at the home office Coax outlet has to be rated over 1000Mhz, so that it doesn’t interfere with the cable TV. Does it require to be over 1000 Mhz?
  • My findings also say that I need to purchase a MoCA Network adaptor. I’m assuming that a 2.5 GBPS adaptor is a good speed for the connection.
  • At this point my research tells me that the MoCA Network adaptor can be connected into one end of the MoCA splitter and the cable to the tv can be hooked into the other connection. Is this correct?
  • Does enabling MoCA degrade the performance and speed of any Coaxial connections throughout the home?
  • Will an unmanaged POE switch connected to the MoCA adaptor run similar to a switch that was connected directly to an ethernet line?
  • What settings do I need to set inside the gateway to enable MoCA?
  • Are there any drawbacks to using MoCA?

Hi @LANMD2017COM, and thank you for posting to the Xfinity Forum. I wasn't able to locate any official documents, however, after chatting with one of my peers, it was said that you can test a MoCA Network Adapter. If you do, after logging into your modems admin tool, he suggested the following:

- Click on Connection.

- Click on MoCA.

- If the MoCA is disabled, click Enable.

Note: MoCA is disabled if Disable is Red.

- Verify that the MoCA Enable button is green.
- Verify that the Preferred Network Controller is Disabled.
- If this is All IP account with only Xi devices, Preferred Network Controller should be Enabled.
- Verify that the MoCA Privacy is Disabled.
- Click the SAVE button.

A confirmation message will appear.

Note: It may take several minutes for the MoCA to enable on the XB6.

Once the Operation in Progress message closes, MoCA will be enabled. No further action is needed.

Note: If a timeout occurs, resend the request. If a different error message appears, restart the XB6 and try again.

I hope this helps.

Hi Again,

I was able to get MoCA to work with no issues. The only problem is now I can't disable MoCA in the gateway. I have tried several times. Once it goes through the process of disabling the enable button will flip back on. I have called tech support and they also are not able to disable MoCA. I was cut off, so I did not get an answer as to why I cannot disable MoCA. I was thinking that maybe I was on a whitelist that will not allow me to disable. Any thoughts on why I can't disable MoCA in the gateway. If I do a reset of the gateway will that clear the MoCA setting back to disabled? Will I get my settings back with he exeception of my SSID info?

Hi @LANMD2017COM! By chance, have you tried to Disable the MoCA using the Admin Tool

Yes, I have used the admin tool. It will try to disbale, but at the end it will revert back to enable on its own. It seems this would be an issue with the firmeware or a setting at Comcast that automatically reverts back to enable. I was reading in one forum that when updates were done to the router then a reboot that MoCA would always revert back to disabled if a customer was using the MoCA option. Is it possible that Comcast changed the settings for people that use MoCA to automatically revert back to enable as a fix to a firmware reboot issue. I talked with tech support they could not figure it out. I asked if I was on a whitelist, but I was cut off on the phone before I could get an answer.
