Linksys Atlas MX8500 using the 2.5gbps port on the XB8

So, is the 2.5gbps port on the modem only use to connect a device?  I was hoping to fed it to a multigig switch, then go into the linksys while having my PC at 2000mbps.  Then having the Linksys connect to that same switch.
