Laptop refuses to connect to wifi

I take my laptop to school and work with me every day, and each time I bring it home, it refuses to connect to my new Xfinity gateway. I restart my computer, forget network, etc. and each time it says “failed to connect to wifi”. Usually it eventually connects, but it often takes hours, and even then is extremely slow. 
My laptop seems to connect fine to other networks,
Any suggestions?

Can you provide more information? For example. Is the gateway in the list of wifi connections? Is the laptop configured to connect to it automatically? Is the password saved in the connection’s setting? What are you trying to do when the connection fails in those hours?

Let me know if this helps:
1. Yes the gateway is on my list of WiFi’s I can connect to.

2. I’ve tried having connect automatically option checked and unchecked and neither makes a difference

3. Yes it is, however when I “forget network” I have to retype it in. Again, this doesn’t change anything. I’ve also tried holding down the button on my gateway to connect that way to no avail. 
4. Usually I’ll restart my laptop a couple times, forget the network, walk away and let it sit and come back to it, etc.
