Laptop not connecting to nearby pod

Hello! It looks like these threads have discussed this issue before and no one has found a solution and instead of posting the solution, Xfinity just close the thread.

Can someone please tell me why I cannot connect to a pod that is directly sitting next to my laptop? I know the pod is working because my Shoretel work phone is connected to it by ethernet. This is extremely frustrating since my Gateway is on the floor below me and my pod is right next to me. And before you ask, no there’s no obstructions.  My Gateway signal is very weak for my laptop and I need to get my work done!

Here is a link to the previous post that was unsolved by Comcast and then just closed -,similar issue: https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/your-home-network/laptop-not-connecting-to-nearby-pod/64fde668a4ef97258665dc1e

user_tcb2a0 The xFi pod functions as essentially an expansion of the existing access point, it widens the existing wireless footprint, and does not act as a standalone position of the network. Typically, if there is a weak signal, the issue might not be in the wireless transmission, but in the actual signal going to the gateway itself.

Could you please send our team a direct message with your full name and full address? Our team can most definitely take a further look at this issue.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble sending a direct message @user_tcb2a0. To confirm, are you logged in? Do you see a paper and pencil icon in the top right hand corner? May I also ask what web browser you are using?

While this response won’t exactly fix the issue you mentioned, if your laptop is seeing a weak signal to the Gateway, then unless your Pod is connected to the Gateway via Ethernet cable, the Pod will also be seeing a weak signal, and thus essentially pointless in your scenario.

You didn’t mention whether it was an XB7, XB8, etc., or which Gen Pod you have (Gen 1 has a single Ethernet port and Gen 2 has two). Both pieces of info would definitely help with the troubleshooting.

I have a Gen 2 pod. I still dont understand why I have this pod then if I have to connect an ethernet cord. Its useless.
