Jitter problems

For about the last month, I've had a consistent jitter and packet loss. Most of the time doubling my average latency and losing about 2% of packets.

Different servers, different services, but the same problem. All automated troubleshooting from xfinity came back with "healthy connection" and I'm connected directly to the xfinity modem by ethernet cable. Solid 1ms ping to the gateway so I'm led to believe it's outside my network.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your response! I have a Cisco XB3 modem and using the supplied user/password combination does not work. I tried factory reseting the modem and still they did not work. So, I'm unable to provide the signal levels.

I ran the ping and traceroute tests and here are the results:

@user_3e831o  Did this issue ever improve for you? I seem to be having the same issue in the same area a month later

@user_p1k891 it...changed. After going back and forth for a while, we had a tech come out to the house. I had an older modem and it was throwing some errors so it was changed out for a newer model. This helped how much I "felt" the jitter/lag during the day even though my pings and traceroutes still have +100ms jitter all day. At night however, it is now worse. I consistently have packet loss from 3-12% with spikes up to 40%. This makes any online game near unplayable. I've reached back out to support but to them my connection looks good. I was told, "Checking the signal levels, the area equipment upstream and downstream signals are all within the correct ranges and passing health tests."

I have no idea what conclusions to draw from this experience.... check your modem? Maybe I have another problem one now? Problem nodes in our area? Does Xfinity testing even consider latency and jitter as a metric to be measured? I'm just not sure.

Today, there has been an outage in my area to "enhance the network in (my) neighborhood." Directly following this work, my latency is as stable as it's ever been. I'll continue to monitor but at this very early moment, both traceroutes and pings are showing a stable response time for the first time in months! I'm aware that they could be completely unrelated but the timing is intersting at the very least. If what they worked on today did contribute to my problems, I guess the question now is, if it was identified, why was it not shared with the customers affected? Did my and others feedback contribute to finding it? When was the problem identified and most importantly, how long until it returns?
