Issues with XB8 Gateway Connecting a Switch

I have had an XB6 Gateway for 7 years, I have a 1 gb switch connected to the back ethernet port for devices that are wired only. It has worked fine for 7 years. I upgraded to the XB8, went through the xfinity app to set it up and wifi was up an running, plugged in my switch and nothing on the switch works, the data lights from the port to the gateway are not lighting up on either the gateway or switch. If I plug any of the items into the gateway independent of the switch, they work fine. I went back to the XB6 and plugged the switch back in, all works fine. Why won't the XB8 work with a switch? How else would anyone plug items into the gateway that are hardwired only...you have to use a switch.

Hello @user_085752, and thank you for sharing your experience. Can you please try another ethernet port to see if there are any changes? We typically recommend ports 3 or 4. Additionally, if you would like to share more details about your switch we may be able to verify compatibility with our XB8 modem. Please note, not all devices are compatible with our XB8 modem. We would also recommend ensuring that your XB8 is not in bridge/pass through mode.

Thank you for your reply. So just to be clear, my current switch is a Netgear 1gb unmanaged switch (probably the most common switch on the market). It is currently plugged into my XB6 and has worked fine for years. I tried port 1, 2, and 3 on the XB8 and the switch did not get recognized and nothing had internet that was plugged into the switch. I did unplug each device from the switch and plugged them directly into the XB8 and each device worked fine with internet. I have something else plugged into another port and that worked fine. The XB8 is definately not in brige mode. I removed the XB8 and reinstalled the XB6 and all is fine with the switch once again. If there is some type of software change on the XB8 that blocks switches, that will be a problem for many unless you provide a gateway with 16 or so ports.

Thanks for the additional details. I checked all of our known issues, and I am not seeing anything regarding switches not working with our XB8. I know many of our customers use these. I am thinking maybe the current XB8 you have is faulty or your switch is just not compatible with this new modem We recommend replacing that with a new XB8 would be a good first step!

@user_085752 did you get this fixed? I just switched to the XB8 and I cannot get to my 24 port gig switch, Xyxel 24port GS1900-24. Should just be plug and play but nothing is working. I am down at the moment.

Nope, tried 3 XB8's, all ports and nothing recognized the switch, jut each device individually. I went back to the XB6, all works fine. I have several swithches I swapped them all out....all work on XB6, none on XB8.

I wish the rep from xfininty replying to this would actually talk to an engineer so they can see for themselves what isn't working.

Thank you @Jlavaseur

@user_085752 were you able to adjust the settings for the XB8?

I no longer work for Comcast.

So on the xb8 the default dhcp server settings have changed compared to the xb6, since your xb6 works, I would compare the two and adjust accordingly…
