Issues with USB WiFi adapter?

I recently had Xfinity service installed for the first time.

The Ethernet cable connection between the modem and my desktop PC doesn't work.

To get around this, I am currently using a USB WiFi adapter, and the adapter plugged into my USB port on my PC talks to the WiFi in the modem a few feet away.

I am using a Tp-Link AC600 Archer T2U Nano adapter, and it appears to work okay, based on my experience of a few days.

But I'm wondering whether this is a reasonable longer-term solution.  Are there any issues that I might be missing?

One area that comes to mind is security, given that all my Internet access is via a wireless link.  My WiFi connection in the modem is set up in the usual way, with a login name and password.

Does anyone have experience in this area and know of issues that should be looked at?

Have you tried power cycling the modem ? Have you tried using a different ethernet port ? Have you tried swapping out for another known to be good ethernet cable ?

I spent some more time trying to figure out why the Ethernet connection does not work.  I tried various cables, modem ports, modem power recycling, PC reboot, Windows Ethernet driver reinstall, and so on.  I still get a "This device cannot start" from Device Manager in Windows.

One alternative to using a USB / WiFi adapter would be to instead use a USB / Ethernet adapter, and these are in the $15 range on Amazon.

If this approach works, it gets rid of the wireless connection that I currently have.

So, did you try to uninstall the ethernet card in the device manager, reboot and it will automatically reinstall it, sometimes this fixes rogue issues...
