Issues Connecting Work VPN on TCP Port 443 – Likely ISP Blockage

Hello Xfinity Support,

I’m experiencing an issue where my mother’s work VPN (SSL VPN on TCP port 443) no longer connects over her home internet connection, but it works fine when using mobile data hotspot. This suggests the problem may be related to her home internet network or something on the ISP’s end.

Here are the details:

  • The VPN uses SSL/TLS (HTTPS) on TCP port 443, the same port used for secure websites.

  • The issue occurs only with the home internet connection.

  • The VPN connects properly when using mobile data or a hotspot, which indicates the issue may be specific to the Xfinity network.

Could you please check the following:

  • Ensure that outgoing traffic on TCP port 443 is not being blocked or throttled on your side.

  • Verify that there are no issues with the router settings, such as firewalls or active ALG settings, that might prevent the VPN from connecting.

I’ve been unable to reach a support agent by phone, and any help with resolving this would be greatly appreciated.

This is urgent and affecting her job security.

Thank you!

We had to turn off Advanced Security in the Xfinity app, also could not reach a agent. For some reason even after opening ports. Our work VPN doesn't connect, but will connect with mobile and/or xfinitywifi. Those are less secure and slow for work access.
