Issues connecting to Chicago servers (I am 200 miles away) depending on which way my traffic is routed

Depending on which way my traffic routes to 2 different servers in Chicago affects my packetloss/ping.

This has been intermittent for a couple months now, and really bad today.  Playing a game on one server located in Chicago (top of picture), my ping spikes to 1000-2000 with terrible packetloss, while another server (bottom half of picture) is fine with 50 ping.

No, it's not just 'traceroute' packets, as it is happening during an actual connection.

Hey there! Can you please send our team a private chat message with your full name and full service address? From here our team will pull up your account and see how we can help regarding your internet service. To send the requested information:
  • Click "Sign In" if necessary
  • Click the "Direct Messaging" icon
  • Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
  • The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support"
there. As you are typing a drop-down list appears.
  • Select "Xfinity Support" from that list. An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line.
  • Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
  • Press Enter to send it
