Issue using more than 1 ethernet port.

I have been using ethernet on my PC for 6 months with no issues. Recently, I built my partner a new PC and when I plugged it into ethernet, both of our PC's randomly lose connection for a couple seconds at the same time and I can't figure out why. I've been troubleshooting for about a day to no avail, any ideas?

@itsoverset I’m sorry to hear you're having connection issues on your pc. I have some questions to ask, so we can troubleshoot together. Is it only the PC that's losing connection?

Are other devices having an issue such as your phone, tablet etc.

Are both PCs plugged into the back of the modem using Ethernet?

When the disconnect happens does the modem power off as well?

Can you tell me about your setup? Do you have any splitters, extenders, amplifiers, separate routers or power strips connected?

@XfinityKei It is only the 2 computers having issues, both PCs are plugged into the back of the router. (I have tried using an ethernet switch as well, which worked a little bit better but still had the same issue) when the disconnect happens the router still works with all wireless devices. I do have the router plugged into a power strip, but no splitters, extenders, or amplifiers.

Thank you for that information @itsoverset, we appreciate it. Have you tried swapping out your ethernet cable? May I also confirm that your PC's system settings are up-to-date?

@itsoverset Can you check to make sure all the connections are finger tight and secure at the back of your modem, router and wall outlet etc?

If you were to bypass your power strip, internet switch and your router are you still experiencing connection drops?

Everything is tight, Yes, the issue persists the moment I try using a second ethernet cable for my second computer.

Does the newly added PC work properly alone when yours is disconnected?

You said you built the new PC, so... Specs?  Also for your existing machine.  Especially mainboard and add-in NIC if you're not just using the built in.  Also which one if your mainboard has 2.

I haven't paid a lot of attention to it since I mostly run 10Gb over fiber and DAC cables with add-in cards at home but there have been a few buggy NICs included with mainboards over the last few years.  It's much easier to start with what you have and check to see if there are any reports of your gear being naughty.
